Gombe Local Government Area is one of the eleven LGAs in Gombe State, Nigeria, and it encompasses the city of Gombe, which serves as the state capital. Gombe State, located in northeastern Nigeria, was created in 1996 from parts of Bauchi State. The Gombe Local Government Area is notable for being a hub of commercial, cultural, and political activities within the state. It is inhabited primarily by ethnic groups such as the Fulani, Tangale, Tera, Waja, and Hausa, among others, contributing to a rich cultural diversity.

Historically, the area that is now Gombe was part of the Sokoto Caliphate in the 19th century, governed by the Fulani Emirate system. The British colonial administration later restructured it, influencing its current administrative setup. Since its establishment, Gombe has evolved from a predominantly agrarian society into a commercial center, attracting traders, businesses, and industries. The area is known for its contributions to agriculture, with crops like maize, millet, sorghum, and cotton widely cultivated.

Today, Gombe Local Government plays a central role in the administration and economic development of the state, housing key governmental institutions, educational centers, and infrastructural projects aimed at boosting the socio-economic status of the state and its people.
